It is easy to become depressed about the current health situation the country finds itself in, added on top of the drought, extreme heat, bush fires, and floods, and now the economy crash, it's truly been a year to forget. As a child of parents that grew up in the Great Depression and fought in WWII, I guess maybe the lessons of their generation have been instilled in me. In the spirit of Eric Idle's song, I am choosing to look for the Bright Side of the situation. Since the Australian government is going to send me a bit of cash (twice), drop the deeming rate (twice), and encourage me to isolate myself in my observatory, I think it is a great time to support (through purchases) the local astronomy retailers. Hmm, what new scope will best support my astro itch? Of course you don't actually have to buy anything, but purchasing vicariously is fun as well.
How about you?
great thread Glen.
It is a really good idea to look for any positives in the current rather dire situation. I have been thinking about getting a slightly bigger scope for some time and have put aside some readies over the past few months - will now do so as a public service Thanks for the suggestion. Cheers Ray
If you look at the figures reported to the WHO every day by every affected country, you will see that our numbers have risen substantially every day,
and are now skyrocketing. Worldometer website, scroll down the list of countries and click on Australia for a detailed breakdown of our figures.

We also have to take into account the testing still takes a few days so those numbers are all past tense, what those figures dont tell us is how many have recovered so active cases would be a more accurate figure. Also how many of those figures are still from people that have arrived back from overseas? Lot's to digest. For all you old timers please take care

I'm still on the look out for a good second hand PME if anyone has one they want to part with at present. I don't want to pay a ridiculous figure but would consider something that helps someone get through a tough time.
