Tarantula Nebula

Captured around the New Year, this is a 2 panel mosaic of NGC 2070 taken from the heavily light polluted back yard. Although it’s a mosaic there is some 50% overlap. It was also unintentional! Although it’s turned out well framing wise, it was actually a pointing error before and after the meridian flip.

Shooting unfiltered with a OSC from the light polluted burbs I didn’t have high extraction of showing much in the way of nebulosity but I’m actually quite surprised. I mostly wanted to go after the stars but there is a nice amount of Ha that’s showing.

Very good Colin. Stars are tack sharp. Nice vibrant colour.
Sometimes errors turn out for the best. I have done that more than once.

Ooh I like that! Deep colours and good detail.

Mewlon eh? You don't see many images from a Mewlon but Tak brought out a corrector for it which must make all the difference.

Greg.

Thanks Geoff, it was a lucky “error”. Captured a bit of time correctly centred but after meridian it didn’t centre correctly afterwards but it helped bring in SN1987A

Thanks Marc! Bright objects are good for suburban imaging

You’re right though, there isn’t a lot of images out there from Mewlons. A lot of people do buy them specifically for visual purposes though, which I kinda did but decided to install the corrector for higher image scales.

Fantastic image, Colin. You managed the dynamic range well as the core of the Tarantula is so much brighter than the rest of the nebula. Nice colours, too!
