An interesting sight 1:50am yesterday (6 feb) morning whilst star gazing with the local astronomical society - a circular 'cloud' was observed by one of the members in the vicinity of omega cent, approx apparent mag of LMC and size of carina neb. Upon closer inspection via a 10" dob, a triangle could be seen leading from the cloud with a bright dot at its apex and slightly removed from it. We observed the sight for over an hour as it slowly tracked towards Mars, dimming as it proceeded. I presume it was the atlas 5 rocket that launched around that time?? A great sight to behold.
