i have had a lovely ccd cam for what seems to be years (haha) and because of the length of time between sessions i need to read the instructions every time i want to use it!!

Clouds. And the accumulating cost of the equipment cluttering up the place, largely doing nothing as a result! This has crossed my mind but it also occasionally gets pointed out by the other members of my family, often after snapping up another unmissable bargain from the IIS classifieds!

Setting up and packing up every time I go out (hopefully fixing that issue soon with a mini-obs). And time to do it. Been a uni student and a family man my astronomy has come to a less priority than every before.

Not being able to do the hobby at a time of my choosing ... waiting and I mean really waiting for the rare night, with no clouds, only a moderate number of mosquitoes, no visitors, no commitments, all after a day of not being worn out by work.

100% agree Morton. Light pollution is far away the biggest bugbear to strike our hobby.

I remember 40 years ago as a teenager in Melbourne south eastern suburbia, how beautifully black the Southern sky was compared to anything today, the Coal Sack was clearly evident. And even from SE Melbourne, I could point my Royal LN4T 4 inch reflector due North and just see Lyra above the horizon to pick out M57 the Ring nebula. Never ever could you do that now...

I find the single most annoying thing about this hobby is its conflict with my need for sleep

Being called an Astrologer or Astronomiser. Hmmm maybe Astronomiser is a valid term for someone who doesn't spend much on the hobby, rules me out then.

An astronomiser turns non astronomers into astronomers. Nothing wrong with that

Time, I spend about 1/2hr setting up then getting everything talking to each other, scopes cooling down then I'm ready OK. By this time something has decided not to talk to something else, get that fixed. Not forgotten anything, great, lets start. By this time clouds start rolling in or the breeze gets up.

Has anyone got a good method of getting rid of mosquitoes?
I bought a commercially available trap (Ambush Mosquito Trap), about 3 weeks ago, but still got bitten last night.
