Auto suggest URL in address

OK, in both Chrome and Edge when entering a search name URL they have a drop box of suggestions....I want this to go away!!!
These "suggestions" are supposed to be based on your search history....
but even when this is deleted (and everything else I can find- cache, cookies etc!!) the suggestions keep coming back.
Dr Google doesn't find/ give a fix for the latest Chrome/ Edge...

If there is no solution....is there a browser which DOESN'T give "suggestions" to the address bar?????
(It's driving me nuts!)

Hi Ken,

Google Chrome Instructions
Click the Chrome menu icon. (Three dots at top right of screen.)
Click on Settings.
In the "Autofill" section, expand the area for which you wish to disable Autofill.
Toggle the setting OFF if it is on. The system will automatically save your settings.

https://www.google.com/chrome/privacy/whitepaper.html
See the section on Omnibox!!
The suggestion of """They can be turned off by unchecking "Autocomplete searches and URLs" in the “Sync and Google services” section of Chrome's settings."""
didn't work for me!!

Chris - No that didn't work.....

Sorry Ken, that's the extent of my knowledge on this,
I find the autofill quite handy, saves me lots of typing.

OK.
Solution found!
I've changed to the latest FIREFOX brower and it gives the option of suppressing "suggestions" in the address bar.
So far so good.
