Auto focuser issues

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone could offer any advice on this.

After a long wait my auto focusing kit arrived today. I ordered it through bintel and the guy in the shop kindly installed the focuser, motor and adapters etc. it’s a feather touch focuser boss 2 kit with a hsm.

I’ve got the drivers installed, plugged in the control unit and put in all of the settings into the software. Everything seems to be setup properly but for some reason the motor won’t turn.

I can plug the numbers into the software and hit sync or got to and the software will go through the motions as if it was working, but nothing is physically happening with the focuser or the motor (no movement, no sound).

Any ideas?

I assume you have tried using the focusser when NOT attached to the scope to see if it turns, therefore assuming you have not locked the focus on the scope

Thanks Jeremy
I wasn’t keen on disconnecting it all last night so no. But I did move the locking screw in and out to make sure it wasn’t locked. I tried it at a lot of different settings e.g. screwed tight, as loose as it would go and many positions in between.

If I turn the focuser manually it moves very smoothly and easily.

Now that the suns up I can try that but I don’t think that’s the problem.

Just some pics of the screens and cable connections in case they help.

These settings are after I’ve been playing around around with it all night trying to get it to work. I did originally have it setup as per instructions. Still, hoping someone can spot something I’m doing wrong.

On the focus lynx commander screen, if I press a button the red numbers respond when it’s supposed to move. As I mentioned before though it’s just on the screen nothing actually happens on the focuser.

Got it. For anyone else who might have the same problem later:

The motor housing where the RJ45/Cat 5 cable goes in is actually a clutch. You need to rotate it about 45 degrees to disengage it. I must be sleep deprived, I really should have figured that out about 12 hours ago.

Anyway it’s working perfectly now. Very happy with it.
