The BOAT - "the Brightest Of All Time" gamma ray burst, officially designated GRB 221009A, was first spotted on Oct. 9, 2022. Now using the JWST, its origin appears to be a supernova. But what is proving puzzling is the precursor star was relatively small and the absence of telltale heavy metals in the spectrum, such as gold and platinum.
