Question SXVF-H9 cooling question

When the Starlight Xpress SXVF-H9 is turned on, does the TEC turn on automatically as it did with my old ATiK16IC (I miss the sound of the fan that tells me its turned on ) I've not been able to find any description of the process in the manual and Maxim DL4 just says "No Cooler Control" and Nebulosity 2 doesn't say anything?

I'm not using the software that came with it, but it doesn't seem to have a cooling on/off option either.

Thanks

Paul,
Yes it turns on when the supply is plugged in. That is basically a usb2 version of my 916 so it would be the same. I have a guide from starlight on how to adjust the internal pots for offset and anti-bloom (gain) if interested.
robin.

Thanks Robin. I thought as much but just wanted to check.

When you say 'adjust the gain' do you mean vary the AD converter? With such a shallow well depth (27000), would there be much to gain by increasing the gain/ADU from 0.45 to say 1? There would be less noise but wouldn't there be a corresponding drop in dynamic range? But I suppose if the anti bloom strength was decreased that would increase the available well depth.

Its something to think about I guess, but I'd probably use my ST7 if I wanted to increase the ADU and increase dynamic range

but having the bigger chip on the H9 would be a bonus

I asked them why my bias shots showed about 3K in the hystogram while other cameras showed around 1K. They told me they pushed offset up to 3K due to a problem in maxim ? Gain setting is really the anti bloom gate settings and adjusts linearity.

I notice in some test shots that there was quite a pedestal, mine is around 2K.

I might do a few tests on the camera over the next week or too just to check out the transfer curve where the camera starts to become non-linear.
