Nikon D60 broken shutter

Hey Guys,

My friend's got a Nikon D60 with a broken shutter. I was wondering if it can be used for astro-imaging. I heard/read somewhere that a DSLR with no shutter can be used for this task as it basically acts as a photo array. I'm sure this theory's got some flaws, but it'll be good to see what can be made of it.

Any suggestions on how to make use of this stuff?

Thanks
Kman

I suppose you could turn the camera on, take the photo and turn it off when done. Nikon's usually do an emergency save before that power down if they are in the middle of a shot. This is also the work around of the hot pixel suppression algorithim Nikon uses on its RAW files.

It should be possible - and people have probably done it before.

I'd recommend going over to dpreview.com and asking in the Nikon forum there for people's advice on how to do what you want to do.
