Camera for PST Coronado

Was thinking of eventually getting a Monochrome camera for my PST. I already have a NexImage 5 for planetary which I am very happy with and also have a Meade DSI Mono with colour filters, however I haven't used the DSI yet.

Now that my priorities have change and I want to get into Solar imagine and not Deep Sky Imaging I was hoping I could probably trade or something for a camera dedicated to Solar imaging.

Ken gave me some advice on a decent DMK. I also wanted to get some more feedback. To make it easier budget would be under $500, camera obviously monochrome, USB and be compatible with XP (Mac would be a bonus!).

the cruel truth is that you have to heavily modify the PST to image - since i was not that clever i hunted around for a Coronado SM40. I previously bought a PST with a double stack option. I will be using the DS with the newly acquired second hand SM40. I have a lunt 60 DS but i wanted a mobile unit - now i have that. as for the camera - there is a DMK41 for sale in ice trades - you cant go too wrong with that provided you can use the firewire card.

Yeah I saw that camera. Problem is I use a Mac and it only has usb and thunderbolt. Not too sure if a thunderbolt to FireWire adapter would work.

i think you missed the main point - using a camera with a PST is a problem, you cant get focus unless you modify the scope

David,
Interestingly we recently identified an issue with the length of the eyepiece holder tube on the PST black box.....
Some were shorter than others!!
The short one allowed DMK's etc to come to focus, but the longer one didn't!
Don't ask me why Coronado changed it!
(I'll find the reference and post actual measurements)
EDIT:
The holders are either 63mm high or 58mm high.
The 63mm seems to have an eyepiece "recess" of 35mm, and the shorter 58mm is only 30mm deep.
A short nosepiece (no shoulder) seems to work on the 58/30 but not on the 63/35.

Thanks for that.
If it performs as per the specs $350 isn't a bad price.....

They look pretty good.

Not in a rush to get it unless I can do a trade.

Thanks for the advice!
