Atik 4120EX

Anyone tried this CCD yet?

Seriously considering it to go on the Tak FS-78. OSC is fine with me, especially given the resolution of this camera.

Yeah give it a shot Lewis.

QSI have this one as well. 12mp Sony with even lower read noise than the 694 or 814. But very small wells. So short exposures is probably going to be needed.

Ideal for a HyperStar or widefield scope. FSQ106 would be ideal for it.
A Pentax 67 300mm F4 EDIF lens would be a cheap and awesome widefield setup with this camera.

The lenses are rare but used to go for around US$1000.

Greg.

Bintel doesn't seem to have them still, so we shall see. I sent a request to Atik direct, but am sure it will be ignored (SX on the other hand never had any issue selling to me directly).

US retailers have them, like OPTCORP, and sell direct . Price $3014 USD plus shipping.

SX don't make a 6120 chipped camera. I asked Terry Platt and he said he didn't have plans to make one. He thinks the pixels are too small for most applications.

Atik or QSI are the 2 I know of. I am sure FLI would install one as well. But they would be more like US$5500 or so.

Yeah looks like a pretty great sensor for Hyperstar.

Are you sure you're little frac will have the resolution to do it justice?

Still not fully decided yet - I still have a hankering to go with an SX mono. Decisions decisions.

QSI offers a mono version only, while Atik the colour one only.

For Hyperstar, Atik would be probably better due to smaller body and no need for filters...

I have QSI 690 (the 814 chip) and although pixels are small the camera is capable of much more than I can do at this stage.

I have a gut feeling that Sony's 12mp chip would be a very good match with a small refractor and could produce stunning images.

I am swaying to the SX Trius H674 mono right now.

In all seriousness, I think it would be well suited and give nice detail...I use my 71mm WO (not in the same class, I know!) for wide and after I took some test shots with my 16MP Fuji I could easily see the extra resolution over the 12MP Canon I usually use. Might not be quite the same arcsec/pixel but still...
