Trius SX-36

I'm currently using an FSQ-85 + reducer with a QSI-683 camera and am looking to add a wider FOV camera to my arsenal. Can't afford the KAF-50100 right now so am looking at the Trius SX-36 and other options. Does anyone have any experience with this camera? Are there any other cameras I should consider that would be a good tradeoff between pixel size and larger FOV? Thanks in advance. Rick

Hi Starman,

I checked out the SX 36 not so long ago and got positive responses. Allan Chen uses one and he posts on the Starlight Express Yahoo Group. He posted a few examples and they seemed good.

Jase on this site is using a KAI16070 camera (its currently being repaired).

If you google CEDIC then have a look at their images. They use several high end cameras. In the end I could pick the KAI16070 images. They pop more, better darker backgrounds and great stars. Compared to say FLI Proline 29050 which were yuck.

Greg.

Hi Greg, It appears that Alan Chen is using a SXVF-H36, not a Trius SX-36. What's the difference between these two cameras? It appears they use the same chip but are in a different housing. Are there differences in the cameras' electronics? Thanks. Rick

Isn't SXVF-H36 an older version of Trius SX-36?

I think SXVF had KAI16000 chip while Trius SX-36 utilises KAI16070 chip.

I just googled it and yes Slawomir is correct. That was the KAI16000 chip.

Here are some examples of the FLI Proline 16070 images from Cedic.
Scroll down and its the 14.5 inch RCOS images:

http://www.astrophoton.com/chile2014.htm

I thought these are as good as the FLI Proline 16803 images (nothwithstanding the larger field of view of the 16803).

The images seem cleaner, more transparent and more vibrant. I am trying to look past the performance of the scope here.

Greg.
