Taking/Converting to FITS image files

Hi All,

Being photographically illiterate, I am hoping that there is some wise soul that can easily explain to me how I can convert some RAW files I have into a FITS filetype that I can plug into AstroImageJ to do some differential photometry with .... It's also a good tool to look for supernovas

Thanks,
Matt.

Not sure if this will do it but google FITSWORK. I've used it previously but moved on to other methods of capture and processing.

Here you go

there is a plugin called DCraw fro imagej, reads in raw images, and can save as FITS or other. Yoo can save the image as JPEG and the use Astrotorillia to solve the image coords. It should work is Astroimagej, I'll try it a bit later.

http://ij-plugins.sourceforge.net/plugins/dcraw/

I learnt something today , some one has already made imagej into a more useful astro tool.....8)

just read AstroimageJ does not have scripting...that's a pain...
the best thing about imageJ in creating repeatable scripts... 8(

Thanks guys,

The reason I use AstroimageJ is because I have a bunch of reference material for it somewhere, and I have used it before - albeit with data collected by someone else

If I can convert some RAW images from my trusty old Cannon to FITS then I might start playing with my own scope (which has only been out of its box twice box alas).

Cheers,
Matt.

Ok, wrong about the scripting its still there...
loaded the DCraw plugin and works good.
Converts RAW to three images red, green, blue.
You can then use the processes on it.
You will need to plate solve the JPEG using the online process or with Astrotortilla.

Also tested with STEREO FITS images. All good.

A very interesting tool, the interface layout looks similar to DS9..

kind regards, Alan.
