Pelican/North American nebula (no images)

Seeing what I could access, I tried a goto to ngc7000 the other night but 'computer said no' and I might be running into power lines by that point anyway. I think +40 is about as far as I can go.

However the Pelican and North American should be accessible from most of Australia, certainly from Sydney/Perth, providing you've got the horizon for it.

They're big and bright and in a good position now from about 9pm or 10pm - it would be nice to see an image in the beginners forum.

I hadn't seen that Lewis, that one certainly doesn't belong in the beginners forum

I recently started imaging some of the northern objects (Veil, sadr region, crescent) after discovering that I could see them for about a hour. I can't quite get to the two mentioned in the title but I figured they'd be nice targets for people further north.

I've seen them visually from QLD Astrofest but even then they were pretty low.

They'll be low from Sydney, but worth having a go, similar to me getting the Sadr region from -38 degrees. I didn't know how that would go until I tried and it turned out great for just 27 minutes - should be a nice image when I get another hour.

Apparently we're in for a warmer and drier period up to Xmas due to temporary stratospheric warming over Antarctica, so I'm hoping I'll get some clear skies soon. Fortunately we've had plenty of rain in West Gippsland so some dry weather would be ok.
