I know this DSO has been done to death but I did it anyway.
After missing the opportunity last year I plan to gather as much data as I can on it this year & put it behind me.
All frames were captured last night, seeing was good but of course my new neighbor had his floodlight on all night as usual.
18 x 600sec exp.binned taken with SBIG 8300C, William Optics FLT 98 @ F5, acquired & stacked with Nebulosity IV, processed in Photoshop CS2, autoguiding with PHD.
Some long stars in the corners & black is a little clipped. Colour saturation may not be to everyones taste but please feel free to comment &

I love this target and you’ve captured it beautifully. I think it’s one of those Nebulae that really lends itself to a bit of saturation so I don’t think you’ve taken it too far at all. Excellent work

Apart from M42, I've yet to image any of the iconic DSO's which are emerging at present. M31, M33, M45 the Rosette etc. are all exciting new targets for me.
There's plenty of decent material being posted by you guys
on this forum atm, it's good to be part of it.

There is just so much detail and its such a clean image.
I dont think it can ever be over imaged, its such an interesting area.

Very good but you can do better.
Please submit more images using four times the data here. Well done..this region can never be overdone. I can't wait for it..I was going to go to bed early and get up for it...but realising I was sick I copped out...this is what happens when you get old...it's too hard..or I can't walk..my temp is up...miserable petty excuses.

Awesome pic, I haven't got this one yet and cant wait for it to be up earlier in the evening. Saturation is fine I reckon. Such a striking target, theres a reason its been óverdone' and why I am going to go after it in a big way soon.

That's a stonker for just 3 hrs of integration. The horsehead nebula is the one image responsible for me buying into astro-photography and I am slowly learning the technical aspects with my relatively modest equipment budget.
Great work with a lot of dust showing up. That one should go up on the wall!

Thank you Bruce, judging by your sig it looks like you have the gear to nail this target as well. I hope to get more data on this by end of season, then on the wall perhaps

As you say, everyone does it and so did I last year, but having improved some equipment issues I am going to hit it again this year and have a real go at it with everything I have learned in the mean time. I am not turned off by it being something everyone has a go at. it is there, so you might as well.
Last year I was having reflection issues which spoiled the image so I want to have another go.
