Any 3.5mm Eyepiece

Hello

I am trying to find an eyepiece which has a 4mm focal length which produces the sweetspot (in terms of magnification) in my refractor for planetary observing.

Consequently, I am interested in anything in the 4mm focal length OR any 8mm eyepiece as well which I can simply connect with my 2x barlow and thus effectively produce the same result of a 4mm focal length.

However, I have one key criteria. I need something which features at least reasonable eye-relief (I am still amenable to suggestions such as plossls etc.) but I think I am now too old for orthos etc

In conjunction with this eyerelief parameter my other preference is towards eyepieces which are physically smaller - however this isn't a deal breaker as there are many great EPs on the larger side which would do the job just fine.

So, some eyepieces which might do the trick include:

4mm Televue Radian
8mm Televue Radian
8mm Televue Ethos
8mm Televue Plossl
8mm Televue Delos

4mm Vixen LV
4mm Vixen NLV
4mm Vixen SLV

These are only examples of eyepieces I can think of off the top of my head - However if you have ANYTHING which is either 4mm or 8mm which you might consider selling please send me a PM only

Just to clarify a point - I don't need any original boxes, paperwork etc I am not after this for collection purposes - I simply want something which is functional -doesn't have to be iin perfect condition as long as it works.

Many thanks

After a little testing last night I would now like to exclude plossls.

So, I am after any eyepiece in either the 4mm or 8mm FL but it must have reasonable eye relief

One last bump - I am completely open to any suggestions if you have either a 8mm or 4mm eyepiece provided it has sufficient eye-relief for my rapidly aging eyes.

Many thanks

I have been trying without much success to ideally find an eyepiece which has exactly a 4mm FL and features a good amount of eye-relief. To my surprise this has proven much harder than I thought largely due to there not being that many EPs produced in exactly 4mm.

Following numerous suggestions and experiments I have now discovered that my refractor can handle the magnification which comes from a 3.5mm eyepiece and there are plenty made in this FL

Consequently, I am after anything AROUND a 3.5mm FL - a few suggestions include:

3.5mm Vixen LVW
3.5mm Televue T6 Nagler
3.5mm Pentax XW
3.5mm Televue Delos
3.7mm Televue Ethos etc
3.6mm Takahashi Hi-Le

These are only a few examples which I can think of from off the top of my head. I am simply after something which will give me good planetary views with sufficient eye-relief.

Finally, I will also consider any eyepiece which has 7mm FL as it can be barlowed to produce 3.5 as well

Thanks for looking at my listing and if you have anything which might fit this ticket please send me a PM

The Vixen SLV comes in 4mm. I thought the 10mm was good.

Good point Morton but I was hoping for something with a little more fov than 45'

Also, I was hoping to avoid buying a new SLV as, to my understanding, the optics from the LV, NLV and SLV are all the same - only the housing is different amongst the differing Vixen eyepiece iterations -

I am certainly interested in buying a 4mm NLV/LV but not one has been offered in the weeks since I listed this wanted post.

Hence I shifted towards any 3.5mm eyepiece as a lot manufacturers produced eyepieces with this particular FL

I'd suggest the TV 3-6mm zoom. And no, I'm not offering mine for sale

It may not be exactly in the category that you're after, but the Baader MkIII Hyperion zoom would give you about 3.5mm with the matching 2.25x Barlow including a better FOV than the TV zoom. I have the Baader pair and have been really impressed with the views.

I really appreciate the suggestions and they all sound good - however - what I really need is someone who has ANY eyepiece around 3.5mm FL which they might be consider selling.

Just to clarify a point

I am asking for any 3.5mm eyepiece as this is a common focal length in which many manufacturers have produced eyepieces. However, anything around 3.5mm such as a 4mm eyepiece would be great.

In this context, any eyepiece which I could effectively use wth my 2x barlow to achieve this same result would be fine as well - so essentially if you have any 7mm or 8mm eyepiece you might consider selling that would be great as well
