TGM-1 Modifications & Adapters

Hi Guys,

I will be using a 500mm F/8 Tamron Lens as a guide scope. I wanted to mount it on a TGM-1 but the way the TGM-1 was designed posed a few problems in the way I wanted it mounted.

I wanted a quick release system for both the TGM-1 and the Lens, so they can be removed quickly without fiddling with socket nuts etc.

Purchased a losmandy dovetail saddle and wanted to utilise my existing arca-swiss bracket to hold the lens.
The TGM-1 came with a bottom plate that was too big to screw into the saddle plate directly so I had to make a custom adapter.

The custom adapters are the shiny aluminium pieces in the photographs below, and it took me nearly eight hours to make them.

Having never used a lathe before it was quite a challenge. This particular lathe that I was working on was made in 1908, and it didn't even have a 4 jaw clamp. I had to use a drill chuck to mount the piece, and then colets.

Anyway, starting from a solid square piece of aluminium I got the below result.

Its not the best finish and I had a few stuff ups, but all in all they serve their purpose.
