Red/ White light head torch
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/131062581493
I misplaced my astro torch in the recent move.....
The $3 head torch (#4 on the list) seemed a good price to pay for a replacement!!

Thanks Ken. That's cheap... I bought 2! Mine died (lost the red lens actually) in the middle of IISAC this year, and while I have a replacement, these are cheap enough to have for spares, or to share with other people.

Thanks for the heads up - have just bought one for myself.
Has yours arrived yet? If so, how long did it take to arrive?

Finally arrived today - but unfortunately the red LED only has flashing mode, not constant on as I was hoping (I'm sure the description did originally say constant on for the red LED... ).
Still, for $3 it was worth a try and it will make a good stocking stuffer for one of my relos this xmas.

Ordered two following this thread...
Arrived yesterday. But yet to unpack.
Feeling somewhat crestfallen if the red led is flash mode only.
Will confirm tomorrow.

Packaged opened tonight.
Turns out I ordered 3.
All flash in red mode. Maybe it won't be so bad in use...maybe the flashing can be disabled...
Someone electronically minded may be able to tell us.

Hi,
Just a thought...
That particular red LED may be a "Flasher" & not able to be "disabled", err, stop flashing.
But it could be exchanged for a "regular" red LED, if you can open it up without damaging it.
Probably take about 15 mins or so for the whole operation, depending on
how the unit is put together..

Sorry guys!
The supplier has apologised to me for insufficient info on their website.

Could take the clear plastic cover off and pack red cellophane inside. Or red paint. Then all the output will be red.
I still intend to pull one apart and investigate further. Cheap experiment for $3.

You could unsolder the white LED's and replace with red LED's, that will do the trick. I did that with the Energiser version which by comparison cost an arm and a leg.

I found that painting a regular white head torch with red nail polish did the trick. Multiple layers required but you have control of how deep you want the red to be. I did the same with a small hand torch.

Did this tonight on all three. Great advice and simple job. The flashing is built into the switch module and I couldn't disable that so I just removed those two LEDs completely.

If its any consolation. I bought a nice WF-501B red light torch from ebay for about $10 delivered, to find it requires a $20 battery.
