New Nikon gear

For anyone that's interested, Nikon has just announced a new DSLR and a couple of new lenses.

The new camera is the D80. It's similar to the current model D50 except it has a 10.2mp sensor instead of 6mp. It replaces the D70s, and is going to cost US$999 when it becomes available next month.

The new lenses are:

AF-S DX Nikkor 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IF-ED - costs US$300 if bought with a D80 body

AF-S VR Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED - is said to cost about US$550

Interesting, thanks Jonathan. Unless you're a true nikon lover, the Canon is just so much more affordable.

Although US$999 for a 10.2mp sensor is pretty good value compared to 8mp for the 350D.

And even more so if you are a die-hard film Nikon user, as the old lenses fit the new bodies, something Canon neglected to worry about when they went from FD - EF.

I have heard that Canon are due to announce new models on 24th August. With the D80 upstaging the 350D I wonder what Canon's trump card will be. A budget full frame DSLR would be nice.....
