Old Film Photography

Anyone out there still using film based SLR camera's too do astrophotography

I'm tempted to take a few Milky Way shots this winter with my FM2 and some E200 with a wide lens but that's about it. I did film astro imaging from '92 until 03 and don't miss it too much (just a bit every now and then).

Yep .... even thinking of getting my hypering chamber out of retirement , getting some forming gas and hypering up the occasional roll of 35mm film.

Been a while since did any imaging though - currently upgrading my old 10" newt (with a better tube , better cell , better focusor , going from a guidescope to an OAG , and upgrading my GEM) . Hope to start imaging again (both 35mm and digital depending on the objective) in the next few months.

Been doing it off and on (guided at prime focus , wideangle , and even fixed short exposures if I am away from the GEM and I see something interesting (like a bright comet say) , since the early 1970s .

I don't mind having to wait a while to process the negatives and print them.

If I get the hang of digital astroimaging , I might decide to use the old film gear only for sky surveys and special jobs.

Ian and Monte I've recently been given an old Pentax MF50 AF SLR with a number of Sigma lenses up too 300 mm FL do you know whether I could buy a Pentax of other DSLR body that I could still use the lenses on, thanks

Try www.cameras.net.au/secondhand.php - if you talk to them, Bruce or Phil, tell them you know me and it's for Astro-photos. They're good guys. I've bought and sold a lot of stuff through them.

Second hand camera shops will be delighted to get rid of old film camera bodies. They should be a dime a dozen. Remember, the older the better. Less to go wrong or get a cold battery.

Thanks Monte but I decided to go an buy a Pentax k100d DSLR all the AF-MF Sigma lens I were given work with it OK I'll probably end up throughing out the old SLR's when the FIL passes on
