New Site For use N S N

Hi

I would like to tell you all about a new web site called Night Skies Network. Not to be confused with another one with almost the same name.
A few of you may know of it already. It is a site I built just for video astronomy. It allows you to broadcast your live images over the web and enjoy watching others do so as well.
It is free to use and all are welcome to use the site. There are 160 people using the site now. With the exception of two all are from North America.
It would be really nice to have some southern skies broadcasting also.

Most users are Mallincam owners , but all makes of cameras are welcome.
If you just want to watch no login or sign up is needed. Just look for any name on the page that has turned RED in color. Click on that name and start watching live deep space views. Just make sure and put your name in the chat box first thing before asking questions and chatting with others.
You will have to sign up if you want to broadcast and that is free. Takes
just a few seconds to sign up and after agreeing to the site rules you have a channel to broadcast with.
I do hope we can get some of you to join in on the fun we are having.
Thanks for reading this post.

NSN Single frame captures

Just to give you a few examples of what you would see live on NSN.
I have added a few from my last outing. They are only single frame captures from my monitor, but they should give you an idea of what is being shown live on the site. Oh and no they are not stacked images. I'm lazy and that becomes to much like work for me. LOL

WOW can it be explained

Hi

I know I'm new to this site and posted about my web site to get others to join in the fun we have using the site. As I start spreading the word I have run into one problem. My hope is it can be explained to me here.
I joined the Yahoo user group for G star video astronomy and explained to the moderator why I was joining. I wanted to spread the word about my site. I thought they were perfect for using the site. I was allowed to join the group. I posted my first post and told people about my site and that it was free and all are welcome. Much the same as I have done here.
With in minutes my post was removed and I was banned. With no explanation at all. I have since sent an e-mail asking why and even apologized for any wrong I may have committed. No response has been sent and that's OK. I don't want to join the group now. I found this treatment rude.
I'm not a political player and I don't sell cameras. I have a web site for video astronomers to use. It is a great out reach site and free for all to use. All of us have a great time using the site. It is a great way to observe the night skies and share our hobby.
I have one sponsor for my site with a very small add in the middle. He pays for my server which is not a cheap one by any means. If this sponsor is why I was banned then the least they should have done is remove my post and explain this to me. I'm sorry , but I hope I don't get this from everyone down that way. I just wanted folks to know about the site. That is all I was trying to do and will continue to do.

Please excuse my rant.

Hi Jim.

Thanks for making me welcome at Night Skies Network.

I am pleased to be up and running and broadcasting under the name 'Snake Valley Australia'.

You guys were very helpful and patient as I stuffed everything up, but all good now.
It is a pleasure to be able to show our Southern Hemisphere skies to all you Northern Hemisphere folk 'live'.

Geez, you all got excited at the Coal Sack! Wait till you see what else I show you

Cheers
Ken

Can't wait

Ken

Can't wait to see what else Snake Valley has to offer us. It was a great show you put on for us. It was awesome to see what can be done with just a web cam. Truly it was. Looking forward to the next one.

Thanks

Jim

This poor old Modified Toucam of mine has a loooong history and has served me well for many years
Firstly as my primary DSO imaging camera, then when I stepped up to DSLR imaging it was relegated to being my guide camera.
It's fun to be using it again as the primary imaging camera on DSO's in such a beneficial way

Now for clear skies to show you more.

Come on people. Broadcast our Southern Skies to the rest of the world.
If a dumbo like me can do it, you guys won't have any problems.

Went into the Canadian Foymount Star Party broadcast.

Nice guys. Had a good long chat with some of them (and you too Jim )

Was interesting watching 'live' as they set up their solar imaging gear then showed us the Prominences!
Pity I couldn't talk Rock Mallin into donating one of his Mallicams to me

Was a great broadcast

I spent last night mucking around trying to get my Toucam to broadcast properly but the quality really let me down. The images were crap
Seeing as I can't afford to get a Mallincam I might have to keep an eye out for a cheap 2nd hand Gstar-ex.

The main thing is your there and using the site. I'm sure for now that webcam can do planets and brighter sky objects. It all happens in smaller steps for a lot of us. Keep an eye out on the used equipment sites you never know what might show up. The CN folks talk a lot about the camera
samsung SDC 435 on sale for $142 at Spytown.com I have seen it work really well. Does 8 seconds and for the money is a nice alternative to the higher end cameras.

New additions

Well some new folks from the UK have started watching and a few signed up.
So now with a few from you side of the world broadcasting. We can get views 24 hours a day. So in the end even if you have clouds at home you can get your deep sky fix in. No matter the time. That's my hope any way. he he he We also pulled in a few new teens watching also. They may not get excited looking through a eyepiece at a faint gray fuzzy, but they sure get excited when they see a galaxy or nebula in color with all it's glory. Video imaging is the way to go for sure. IMHO anyway. LOL Can't wait to see more from down under. So many new objects to view. The ones I have seen so far are just mind blowing. Thanks to Martin and Ken.

We are just a bunch off show-offs
Got to brag about what we have in our skies

But it is great to be able to show Northerners what is down here.

And thanks for the tip about the Samsung cameras Jim.
Looks like I might be getting the SCC-A2333 model
0.0000006 lux @ 512x sense-up for under $500

Very cool. Can't wait to see you get it and put it in action live for all of us to watch. I hope you let us all know ahead of time.
By the way I saw you catch Kevin's & Aprils Astrocast this morning.
They love broadcasting that's for sure. They go for long hours also.
