Obs report 1/10/10

There were no clouds about when I got home tonight but the sky wasn't a nice clear blue either. Looked a bit dirty, not sure what it was.

I got the scope out anyway as the rest of the weekend looks to be terrible so this was possibly my only chance.

I started with Jupiter which is reasonbly high early on now. The 4 moons were in an interesting formation on one side tonight. Reminded me of Corona Australis. Jupiter was difficult to focus which confirmed what I saw earlier, the sky was not really clear.

Next I tried for the October challenge objects NGC253 and NGC55. Even though the seeing was poor I could see NGC253 but it was not at its best. I did a sketch anyway which I will upload once I scan it.

NGC55 was even harder to see in the conditions but I could just make it out.

Finally had a quick peak at NGC104, this thing is big enough to see through anything. Called it a night as conditions were not really that good. I think there is more light polution in my area than even just a year ago.

Nice salvage job there Micheal. Seeing was terrible here aswell, so no Jupiter, but managed to get some good galaxy observing in. Jupiter's moons were interesting tonight, when I started at about 9pm there were 3 in a row on side of the planet with the 4th directly below the one closest to the planet.

Nice sketches Michael. I saw the arrangement of Galilean moons too - I thought it quite a stunning little arc.
