QHY8 Pro or QHY10

Hi All,
I have finally saved enough to buy myself a CCD, I have an orion 120ED, 80ED and a C8. I was looking to buy the QHY8 Pro, which I have been told is a great Camera, quite suited for the scopes i have.

Last night I was told I would be better off going for a QHY10.

Now I am a little confused, So can someone help me out with pros and cons regarding the 2 cameras.

Regards Peter

QHY8Pro = 6MP
QHY10 = 10MP

Everything else is pretty much the same.

Except the price, of course

And the file sizes if your PC is aged like mine was, it choked on the 6MP files, imagine what the 10MP ones would do.
QHY8 is a nice camera, and a great starter. If the prices are the same, then grab the later model, but I suspect there will be a difference in price.

I'm a bit surprised pixel size etc hasn't been mentioned as a consideration here?

I have looked at the specs, pixels in the 10 are smaller, I havent been able to work out the pixel focal ratio thing but i asume smaller is better, I was more wanting to know about the tech side, one reads the temp or is temp controlled, the other doesnt, I dont understand what all the numbers mean.

Given the "quietness" of the Sony chip (in the QHY8, not sure what the QHY10 has), I'd certainly not get hung up on temperature control.
Small pixels are great for shorter focal length scopes/lenses. Not so for the longer focal lengths.
Either camera will make you happy.

Hi Peter, Having owned a QHY8Pro and now owning a QHY10 I can say both are very good cameras for the price. The smaller pixels of the QHY10 definitely suit the shorter focal length of the ED80 and 12 better than the 8pro but I wonder about the C8. The increase in resolution of the 10 MP QHY10 allows smaller detail to be captured and resolved and with it's deeper wells at 45K gives a bit more exposure before stars are fully saturated.
I made the step up to the 10 but have yet to get much of a chance to try it out.
My thoughts would be to go for the newer tech of the 10 but I was also very happy with the 8 pro.

6MP up to 10MP is quite a jump and worth the expence.

The QHY10 has a sony chip in it as well with VERY low noise. I dont use darks in 5 min exposures. Also 2 stage cooling and a tip tilt ring system for adjusting chip in relation to imaging plane.

The files the QHY10 produces are massive. The fit files are 19mb. When you you debayer they end up at around 40mb each .

I'd go the 10, bigger chip smaller pixels, I've got a qhy8, went for the 9 and surprised at the better resolution.... I know it's a mono... but it's possible on the 120 and the 80 you will miss detail that the scope can produce, given you have the funds bigger is better. Have you considered the 12
