Alex,

Do you have a virus protection app & malware detection app? If so, you should run those first...

If you need help, send me a pm with your mobile & I'll see if I can help you

Cheers

I think some files are ok on the external hard drive...there was probably so much they couldnt download it all☺.
I will do what I can and see if anything works...Deepsky stacker is stacking some stuff it seems but some stuff it wont save...
I cant open the Norton icon on the desktop.
So its maybe been shut down..I think the worst but after reading about it getting past it is not easy.
I see there is someone advertising to do recoveries etc.

Alex,

You might need to take it to an IT specialist if you cannot access your anti virus/ anti malware software...

My advice, FWIW, after you hopefully get it sorted...

Find yourself a VPN (Virtual Private Network) provider, some are free & some are not. They make your computer even more secure & provide significant protection from hackers, along with up to date anti-virus & considerable care opening emails that you do not recognise as being from a known or friendly source...

My offer to try and assist you over the phone is still open; no guarantees I can assist but, I'm happy to give it a crack.. I do have some expertise in this area from courses & qualifications gained whilst serving in the military...

One thing you might try is to actually go to where your applications are residing in the computer (Ie: Windows\program files or windows\program files(x86) ) & see if you can run it from the parent executable file. It may be that your desktop icon (which is only a shortcut) is not working.

Depending what version of Windows you are running, there are some inbuilt applications which may assist you in diagnosing any problems and fixing them..

Cheers

Carlton

If it's that bad that you'r thinking of throwing it away, don't just do a complete (full) format of the H/D

You are right Simon I was stressed and coming from "I show them I will put it to the axe". .
However its seems to be recovering I give it heaps of medicine and used my limited knowledge to get around issues.
And I think I may have recovered much of my data. It a case of going thru everything really...but net works DSS is working better and as I said I think I may have saved the eta data.

Anyways it seems reasonably ok this morning ...I am still checking things.

Anyways can have a go at the wifi..got the mount scope and cameras..everything all set up inside so the neighbours dont see me take the axe to the lot if it does not co opperate.
Yet as I said to a mate only yesterday..this astrophotography has caused me to be more patient than ever before when I thought I was a patient man.

These problems I just tackle one at a time knowing in time it will somehow be fixed...so many times this or that does not work when everything you have done is correct and the damn thing is leading the robots revolt..so we dont let it get personal and avoid ever swearing at its obstenance.

Throwing away computers? chuck em my way, I'll get them humming for something useful.

I did a large post on this sort of thing once before so wont repeat. But I'd bet there's no data corruption and ransomware goes out of its way to tell you its there so you know where to send money.most often its "helpful" things people dumbly install that clog up resources making it take hours to load something instead of seconds. doesnt have to be malicious its just people making dumb decisions about their computers.

It may be in small pieces☺.
I am just having a run where nothing seems to go right for me..no drama all things that will build my character☺.
The trouble is I dont have a clue about most things so working thru what would be small problems, for someone more capable than me, is a major task.

I will get there eventually.

Try having all those "everyday" problems and having to still do them with a half working body from a stroke. You have it so very very easy so dont complain at all.

Yes it cant be easy mate.

I have a small problem leg wise as they burn non stop from the knees down and although the pain is managable it really takes away motivation having to work so hard at doing stuff that once you took for granted.
I use a walking frame not cause I need it as such but when my legs give up..say in the supermarket I have to sit down or I fall down...

Anyways I made a huge effort today. I took everything on that has been a problem even though I woke up feeling like c rap. I sorted out Norton thing I have been having problems with and almost got asiair sorted..it doesnt work all the way but its getting there ..and also developed better relations with a lady who ended up being real nice unlike days ago
.I am most happy about that..not a rimantic thing but in time I will tell the story as a happy ending is near...I am not saying my problem comes close to yours but I assure you I can understand a little of how tuff it must be.
Before I had the back opperation I was pretty well imobile and looking down the barrel of a wheel chair and so when I feel down I remind myself that I was very fortunate that the opperation was a sucess...
Thanks for sharing a view of your world and i hope that maybe the future sees an improvement in your situation.

The decline hits everyone and everyone reacts differently. I spent 5 months in a wheelchair hating every second of it. I watched as one guy on the ward pretty much willed himself to death (Ive failed to achieve that yet) but worst of all if how many people couldnt be buggered to fight to get better and instead became ultra dependent on using sympathy to get others to do things for them. Pissed me off, I would have swapped situations with them in an instant, they have no excuse to be so selfishly lazy while I was fighting tooth and nail to get on my feet. Didnt help that the prognosis was I would never walk again (this is based on their process of judging a book by its cover to diagnose me by assumption).

Wheelchair sounds an easy option, but you have to have one fitted to you (your hip width and leg bone lengths) to have any chance of comfort for long periods. You'll also fast realise how impractical and dangerous many wheelchairs accesses are in practise. The old addage of use it or lose it is 100% correct. The sooner you give in to the easy options the faster you lose what abilities remain and start gaining a ton of other problems. Pain is the far preferrable option IMO and I'm never without it.

Anyway, been interested in reading your journey with the ASIair, been eyeing one myselfand still uncertain if it'll help anything for my gear. Plus I want to rip down my rig and rebuild with optimisations. So many ideas though, not enough time or money or skill.
