12 inch reflector - 2nd light - Jupiter

Had to try.

A bit blurry. The atmosphere was like pea soup.

Getting ready for the 09-02-2018.

At 5AM we will have Jupiter, Crescent Moon, Mars, Antares and Saturn all together.
Might get out the Canon.

It's promising start for the scope, how's the collimation, that and fine focusing are most important, as I'm sure you're well aware. Look forward to seeing more of your efforts with the new ( modified ) rig.
The sky show this morning about 2;30am, with the Moon and Jupiter close as was Antares and Mars was quite a pretty sight.

Peter,
This shows real potential in the scope. Heaps of detail coming through even if the sky was blurry. This 12 is going to be heaps of fun for planetary imaging and dso's.
Was this image from a movie grab and stack?

Collimation is a bit of a problem. It changes slightly depending on the attitude. At this stage will have to check for each attitude.
Until I find what is flexing.

100 frame video. Selected the best 20 (PIPP) and then stack (AutoStakkert), crop, PShop for a bit of contrast/brightness.

When watching the image live Jupiter was dancing all over the screen.

Thanx Alex

Photo of rig is here. Doesn't have the guide scope on it.
Testing that tonight.

Oh and someone asked how the EQ6-R mount handles the weight: Easily.

And don't forget about 5am tomorrow. Worth a look east.
Perfect opportunity for a wide field camera shot.

I think another counter weight and shorter rod may help.
I captured an hour of horse head last night and I am going for anothrt hour tonight...30 sec 1600 iso seems to be the go for me in the city.
Pick up the heq 5 tomorrow and got me a flexible solar panel today so hopefully will have a great set up for my trip North to my dark spot...
I dont plan going to bed until 3 am so I will pas on the wide field as tempting as it may be...plus I only have about 20 degrees due to trees here...thats why my captures are about an hour.
Good luck with your new rig.
Alex

Nice shot of Jupiter and what a great setup you now have. The scope looks fantastic and good to hear that the EQ6 handles it well.
