Modular camera with 261 mp fo Astro ?

Saw this one and wondered if it had any application in Astro ?

http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=21835&page=3

Choose your sensor back, brain and other modules according to your needs - right up to a 261mp back with 13 stops of dynamic range too !

Not sure if the sensors are anti blooming but certainly something different.

Cheers

Why on earth would anyone really want something like that when some here can get magazine results with a DSLR of 12 meg.

probably the bragging rights leon, might get crap pictures but you can say you have a big camera. it is what you can get from your toys that makes the image great

The 261meg is for pro who used to shoot 6 by 17 panoramics. A 12meg DLS does not compete with a signal shot panoramic camera.
BTW these guys didn't come up with this first.

I have a friend who specialises in Landscape photography. He uses film then scans, the reason, the scanned output is equivalent to 600mp, digital is good, but has a long way to go before catching large format film for that kind of work.

The camera primary role isn't to take pretty still pictures with. It shoots at 261MP @ 25 fps, so to me it appears to be designed for shooting cinema productions.

I think you'll find the 25fps is at a much smaller output.

The trading name of the company that produces these cameras is "red digital cinema"

http://www.red.com/

I'm 100% certain that these are designed for filming cinema productions

Everything I've read so far indicates 28K @ 25fps - in other words full 261MP @ 25fps. If this is true then this camera will revolutionise IMAX. IMAX is currently about 10K resolution on film, and bulky and awkward.

A full digital implementation of IMAX at even greater resolution than what is currently offered by the film variant? Could this be the eventual path of this technology?
