QHY8 Mono

I have been looking at the QHY8 as I like the larger 7.8um pixel size and I was wondering if any one knows whether this chip has or will ever be made into a mono camera?

No is hasn't/won't. There is a qhy10 coming, not sure on the details, but I think it will be 10Mp colour.

Robin,

Is there any particular reason that they haven't/won't?

I'm guessing the chip is only available in colour?

Yep, Sony only make the Color in that size.
Shame really, would have been an absolute killer if in mono.

Theo,

That's what I was thinking and there doesn't seem to be anything comparable either.

It looks like that qhy10 will also be a OSC.

QHY10 will use the similar constuction of QHY8PRO, includes the similar 2-stage TEC and temperature regular.

Yes,

Looks that way and the pixel sizes are coming down again.

I am looking for a mono medium format with larger pixels that is a reasonable cost. I am not sure such a camera exists.

Neither do I. Kodak KAF16803 has 9u pixels but it's full frame and not at what I'd call reasonable cost.

Frank, I reckon you're best going with a small OSC CCD for a starter. Coming from a DSLR the transition will be quick and easy. Get a mono with Filter wheel and all the gear later on if you feel you have the time, patience, clear skies to go with it.

I agree, I wish I didn't have to sell my QHY8 when I did
