Mission for Canon EOS 400D owners

Hi all,

I have a special mission for anyone with a Canon EOS 400D (AKA Rebel)DSLR and a standard 18-55 Lens.

I am writing an article on light pollution.

All I need is a photo from the capital cities listed below.
I will choose from several submissions if anyone is interested.

Please PM me with your interest and I will provide image capture parameters.

I will publish the link address to the completed article on the forums, with image credits listed for those chosen.

Cities in random order:

Sydney
Tokyo
New York
London
Moscow
Beijing
Paris
Berlin
Cairo
Singapore
New Delhi
Buenos Aires
Copenhagen
Athens
Rome
Baghdad
Wellington (NZ)
Abu Dhabi
Washington D.C.

Cheers,

Baz.

Baz, I am North West of Sydney and have 400D with the 18-55mm lens and am ready to help.
Not wanting to take over this thread but you gave me an idea. How about integrating this with Google Earth. I noted when using Google earth that you can actually post photographs from various locations, showcasing vistas of landmarks etc. Might also be worthwhile to stick these photos up there so we can see geographically how the lights from the main city and other minor CBD's effect astroimaging etc. For example I could possibly put up a North facing, East Facing, West Facing, South Facing, and one Straight up view from my location. But not sure how valuable it would be to anyone else. Could also be used by others to find good locations to buy property if you are into Astronomy.

Regards
Fahim

Hi Baz

What a great idea, and yours too Fahim.

I can help you out from the Southern end of Sydney. I go to Waterfall most new moon weekends or otherwise Bargo with SASI so I can run you off some images next time I'm out if that helps.

Regards

Due to the lack of response, I have decided to do away with this list of cities. I will take entries from any large city in the world.
I'm not sure why I have has so little interest. So far only one person has actually delivered a photo. I feel the subject of light pollution is likely to be something near and dear to all astronomers/astrophotographers hearts.
Anyway, the offer still stands, if you want to help out, please PM me and I will provide image capture details so you can snap a bit of your night sky and send it to me.
Looking forward to your efforts,
Baz.

Baz, I'm willing to help - if the clouds disappear for long enough.
I live in Brisvegas (just south of) and I have a 400D.

Well, the article is now uploaded. I got a lot of replies with pledges of photographs from over forty people around the world. So far only nine have submitted an image...including me.

Ah well, more should roll in over time. There is enough there so far to get the general idea of what I was trying to illustrate with the different levels of LP around the world.

Maybe a different thread title Barry. Something that better describes what you are trying to do. When I read "Mission" I thought, don't have time for a "mission".

But then I realized....I don't have a 400D anyway....but I know someone who does.
