Last week I got a very good 40cm Dobson for $1500 with a GSO mirror. Here the images.

I have to admit the first thing I noticed was the lush green garden! and I immediately thought "that's not Australia!"

Vixen NA140mm Scope.

Vixen NA140mm f/5.7 Achromat Petzval Design ( improved colour and flat field ) ...these don't ' show up ' to often...if fact..in the 5 years since I've been on this Site, I've seen 1 only up for grabs.

It's ' BIG ' ...but surprisingly light for it's size .... and my StellarVue M1 holds this VERY steady indeed.....I was apprehensive in the beginning doing this...but ...even with a ' deliberate ' bump, the Scope settled with in a second or so....surprised me ...!!

Being an Achromat, a 2" inch Baader Fringe Killer Filter is a must have for those ' brighter objects ' .......but where this Scope really excels is the Wide Field views it gives at 140mm Aperture.

Mind you...a ' T-Rex ' would be my choice of Mount for this....but that's for another day.....and yes...as per usual ...it's overcast and raining here right now...why am I not surprised ..

Now for the clouds to go away ........

Finally got my ideal set up for visual and imaging. I decided to fit the FSQ-106 to the EM-200 and the TOA-130 to the PMX.

Thanks Col and Matt. Apart from looking good the Taks certainly perform brilliantly. I often have the guilts looking at the amount of stuff I've collected over the years, but these bouts only last for about five seconds or so.

My Takahashi Mewlon 300 and EM400

Pretty rough and ready picture of the Mewlon 300 in action late one midnight/morning :-)

Will get a better action shot some other time

Well typically it's been nothing but rain and sucker holes for the entire New Moon weekend so I haven't even had a chance to play with my new Orion Autoguider setup. So I moved the mount under cover to route all the cables and recollimate the OTA.

It's not the most glamorous setup but I'm happy with it, 8" f/5 Skywatcher 'Black Diamond' + modded/cooled 450D, Orion ST80 + SSAG, on an older EQ6 which I've 'shoestring modded' for the Orion's ST-4 input an recently cleaned and tuned.
Bring on the clear skies!

I've always wanted to post here for a long time, and I think I finally can.

This is a home built 10inch F4 Serrurier Truss with Carbon Fibre Truss segments, moonlite, mirrors from Orion Optics in the UK, guitar string spider.

I use a QHY8 and 1000d with a TS-9 OAG and a QHY5L-2 guidecam.
Mount is an NEQ6pro.

Now if only the skies cleared when the moon wasn't out!!

Cheers
Alistair
