Probably not a good idea to have the telescope out during Council pickup day...

12" SkyWatcher Goto Dobsonian.

Nexstar reborn

Conversion of the Nexstar from a visual rig to an AP rig finally complete.
C8 Nexstar OTA on EQ6 Pro, OAG and upgraded finder, focuser, diagonal (f6.3 reducer not shown).
Still reasonally light at 50kg, give or take a couple.
Now just waiting for the clouds to clear so I can give the rig a test!
Will stick with my Nikon D70s and a couple of webcams for the time being, this AP thing is expensive

Also used by Tombaugh. I LOVE this scope! Used it for many years already.

My current imaging setup. The newest edition is the tarp as I get gusty gully winds in the evenings. Doesn't completely eliminate the wind but allows me to image in 20-30km/hr winds instead of about 10km/hr without the tarp. The scope is better protected from the wind when facing towards the meridian.

A blast from the past

Cutting edge equipment from the past! Two eclipse expeditions when living in Kenya. June 1973 - at Loyengalani (by the eastern shore of Lake Turkana). February 1980 - in Tsavo National Park.

Here is my setup (without cables!!)... CGEM 925 with cheap 80mm refractor as guidescope. QHY5 guider and ATIK 320E main camera.

Guide rings just arrived today - so finally it is balanced!!! I had been using the celetron photographic bracket until now to mount the 80mm, but it was too heavy at the EP end of the OTA to balance.

I have balance!!
