Orion Optics AG-10 arrived

After a 7 month wait since ordering my AG-10 f3.8 it arrived Friday last week.

The pictures speak for themself. Its a work of art. The machining and engineering are gorgeous. Anyway enough adjectives.

Being my first ever newtonian I was very nervous about how hard this would be to collimate. After lots of reading and taking my time over a few nights I got my head around it pretty quickly.

The catseye tools (Telecat XLS and Infinity XLK) combined with the new Radiation Hotspot made the job very simple and quick. There is a great video here showing how easy it is.

I had some trouble at first as I did not have the Infinity XLK elevated to the image plane. Once this was sorted it was a breeze.

Now that thats sorted I need to install the Mount Hub Pro to run dew heaters, fans etc...

Will then install and see if the weather ever clears in Melbourne.

Will keep you posted.

Looks nice Chris. Is that a dew strap wrapped around the back? Any issues with tube currents?

It is one but I have not turned it on and dont expect I will need to as the fans on the back seem to do a good job.

Is that a stock, as listed on OO website AG10, or does it include optional upgrades? Upgraded mirror etc?

Its got a few upgrades.

1. 1/10 wave mirror upgrade (Ultra grade)
2. Heater installed behind secondary at factory
3. Extra tube rings around focuser area to support focuser block for realy heavy payloads
4. Atlas focuser (which I bought from OPT and installed myself)

Chris, it looks a treat on the MX. Thanks for sharing.

Whenever I see Mike's photos I ask myself that same question. AG12, yes. Stock accessories / base cost, no.

I would be interested to see comparison photos from a purely stock AG vs one all kitted out... Don't like my chances of that happening.

Chris - Why did you go for the 10 inch and not one of the other sizes available?

Just seemed like a good compromise in size. The 12" is huge and cost a fair bit more plus from where I image in backyard of melbourne I did not think the extra apperture would make that much of a difference.
