Melbourne Seeing Conditions 29/8

Was out testing a new scope and just wanted to confirm what the seeing was like for you within the Melbourne area? I felt as though it was a little washed out. How was it for others viewing tonight?
Please tell me it wasn’t my scope!!

Well Melbourne has had the worst cloud cover for some time now that I’m guessing from the responses to the thread that all Melbourneans have given up on the sky’s clearing. Just a heads up tonight is another opportunity for us before the clouds blanket Melbourne again for god knows how long!!

I was up in Heathcote last night and given the nicer jet stream I’d considered doing some long focal length imaging but I’m glad I didn’t as it was quite windy until midnight.
I’m thinking that the jet stream was okay but if it wasn’t windy in Melbourne then it may have been some stronger winds between the ground and jet stream that washed out the sky.

Hi Peter,

I was out to image the planets around half past nine and visually the seeing looked promising at 325x, as a lot of high contrast fine detail was coming through. When I plugged in the camera it became apparent that there was a very rapid component to the seeing, making the image rather jittery.
By Melbourne standards I would call it good but not very good seeing.
Hope that helps.

I packed up at 20:15.
There were some high level clouds but they didn’t hang around for long after.
I’m going to try again tonight see what it’s like for me and hope I don’t spend to much time collimating my scope.

Can confirm even though it wasn't particularly cloudy last night the seeing conditions weren't great. I can't see a cloud in the sky at the moment so here's hoping it stays that way for this evening

It will be clear tonight no doubt. I just need the clear sky’s to play fair so I can get an indication on the optical quality of my scope so I don’t start sweating that I’ve got a lemon!!
