PHD guiding dithering manually?

I am using a QHY9 mono camera & PHD guiding.
There doesn't seem to be a program which can dither my frames.

I wouldn't mind just doing it manually e.g.
Just click on a program that will dither PHD guiding regardless of
what capturing program I'm using for my QHY9.
I actually use EZCAP to capture frames which is the software that came with the QHY9.

When I was using a Canon EOS1000d I used dithermaster from Nicola -
http://www.skymonsters.net/software.php

I don't see why a program can't be written for dithering PHD guiding that has nothing to do
with any capturing software.
You'd just click dither & it would dither the PHD guiding -
the graph would settle & then you could click capture on whatever
capturing program you were using.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Maybe APT (http://ideiki.com/astro/Default.aspx) can help?

PHD2 has a "Manual Guide" method that includes dithering.

Thanks Andrew,
It does too:

Expanded features for"manual" guiding and trouble-shooting
  • User-defined pulse length
  • Manual dithering
Thanks very much -
I'll download that & let everyone know how I go.

Also - thanks Chris but I didn't want another program -
I love PHD guiding & it was just missing that one feature -
to dither manually.

cheers

I didn't mean it as a replacement to PHD - I think it integrates with it and does the dithering calls for you. I haven't tried it with APT, but I assume it does something similar to the way BYEOS works.

Thanks Chris & Trevor,
I didn't want to use another program right now.
I am happy to just use PHD manually for dithering.
I normally switch RGB filters one after the other
so I end up with even amounts of RGB data even if clouds come over.

Actually - I'm thinking about a focus program & using an electric focuser.
My JMI crayford focuser has no X10 reduction & even if it did it wouldn't be usable
because the scope rocks too much.

cheers

Update: Using PHD2 instead of PHD1.

I used PHD2 guiding last night & it was great to be able to dither manually.
It has different sections in the software - more features & it's a nice update.
It should improve my images.

cheers

PHD 2 is a great improvement over the first version. I am using it with SGP at the moment with good success, I especially like the option to save dark frames and the "target" view that shows centroid position in 2 dimensional space.

Thanks Peter,
I haven't used all the features yet.
I'll have to to try target view next time.

cheers
