M83 - Learning PI

There is so much to PI it is daunting at times.

Focusing on only a few process's during the Linear phase.

DBE- Dynamic Background Extraction
BN - Background Neutralisation
CC - Colour Calibration

Totally forgot about noise reduction (again).

The goal was to get the best colour balance ready for the non linear processing.

This data (cropped to an inch from it's life) is from the 85mm Eon.
160 of 60s subs, gain 139.

Hope I'm making headway :-)

No Peter that looks terrible go back and start again.

However I must conceed it is rather a decent image reflecting not only skillful acquisition but very capable skills in processing.

The fact is the image has been cropped and frankly if you had not mentioned the scope or that you had cropped it I would have thought it came from a long focal length dedicated galaxy scope.

And when I say terrible I really mean fantastic and better than anything I could manage.

Anyways you should reprocess it if only to include noise reduction in work work chain...heck you paid for it so use it...

I got a trial for PI and yeah its very daunting, it is an amazing application though.

I love your galaxy capture! I cant wait to start being able to do this sort of imaging.

Looks to be too much green. Try applying the SCNR process and see if this helps. The SCNR process is typically used immediately after colour calibration.

yep nice work - def was a little green. i'd thought id add a quick and dirty noise reduction you forgot although its no PI - but nice detail there - great capture

Hi Peter. Yes, as others said, PI SCNR may help. PI is daunting, for sure. I read somewhere :if you heard/read somewhere that there are 3 different ways to process an image, you find 18 in PI. Sometimes I do really get lost processing in PI.

I was always told green is taboo in AP images but there are no rules that’s what makes it enjoyable
Sorry can’t help you with PI as I use Startools ( no levels and curves to worry about and you can go back and forth at will . I love it )

I just realised with the Bintel tool you can upload your channels and see a result to give you an idea of colour outcomes with your image. If nothing else the suggestion must be colour is somewhat a variable. Anyways I hope it gives you so ideas on what can be done.

I have not tried it but looks like something for a rainy day.

I don't know how much effort to combine your channels in PI but it is rapid in star tools and you can change colour balance with a slider which personally I find neat.

Anyways don't lose sight of the fact you have a most worthy image and best of all there are things you can do to improve it by including noise reduction.

What I have been doing is to look on the net at images and try and do similar to the ones I prefer ...again there is considerable variation.

PI trial was too much for me right now, maybe i'll have another go once i have all the equipment running well.
I found Astro pixel Processor suited my brain.



Good to see another EON performing well for it's operator.
(is "operator" the right word here? maybe "user")
