Sorry to throw a spanner into the works but have ever considered a 10” f5 carbon fibre newt on your EQ8-R mount
Focal length 1250mm at f5 , enough punch to image the dimmer galaxies and a snack to collimate
That’s my next scope after my 8” f5 is retired
Oh and they only cost around $3.5K

ByI want to try something different I guess.
The metal tube is $2500 according to the site.
And if the auto guide works as well as it is shaping up it may be back to a 16 inch...or a 150 mm triplet...or one of each.I am not going to build a house so the money can go in scopes

Alex, I've got the Optec TFC-S and it came with ASCOM driver and an app for Windows. It can also be used on Linux with the INDI driver that provides the same functionality as the Windows app should you ever jump over to the dark side.
