Warning on Melanoma Risk

This morning I had a good chunk of tissue cut out of my upper left arm, this was due to a small mole previously removed by my GP, which when tested, said small mole turned out to be a Melanoma, my first ever in seventy years. Today's excision was to cut out the mandated clear margins around and below the melanoma site. So tonight I am really feeling the pain of this removal.
Just wanted to alert everyone to be Melanoma aware, anyone can get them. I had thought spending a good part of my life in the Great White North (Canada), that i would not have to worry about them, not so.

Get your GP to have a look over your skin for any suspicious moles and don't hesitate to have any questionable ones removed for biopsy.

Glen
Thanks for posting such an important message
I had a melanoma removed from my back in 2014 and 2 Basal cell carcinomas removed from my shoulders 2 years ago
Obviously spent too much time in the Sun surfing without sun protection from the age of 12 years old to mid 50s
I get checked every year now as the sun damage over all those years can’t be reversed , all you can do now is monitor
It’s not just Anglo Saxon heritage that’s higher risk , it can be Mediterranean or Latino skin types as well. My wife has Mediterranean skin and she comes with me every year. Melanoma doesn’t discriminate
So get checked !!
Thanks Glen

Hi Glen,
I feel your pain,
As you probably know,
I've had 4 malignant melanoma cut out, and about 6 Basil cell (losing count!)
As a result, I see the skin doctor 4 times a year.
It's amazing that they can appear and grow so quickly, so the importance of your point to be continuously vigilant.
Even though I always wear a broad rimmed hat and keep out of the sun, they still keep appearing.
Visited the skin doctor yesterday myself, no big worries but he still managed to spot 42 "Sun Spots" that he had to freeze off (Ouch!)

Red hair and fair skin, you gotta expect it I guess.

He tells me you can get them even through glass. Like the car or sitting in a sunny room (so nice on cold days) so even then he tells me to keep the hat on. Obvious when you think of it, when you see how furniture and curtains etc deteriorate inside a house.

Thanks for the reminder Glen. Hopefully your pain abates soon and heals well.

Now that sounds painful you people.

I know what you mean . I think I am fading from all that sitting in cars behind glass.

Although the arm out the window and the right side of the head is worse. All that UV alphabet soup. Lifeguards here get it worse on the left they say as they are always more exposed looking South on the East coast.

Luckily no more pokes in the eye today , just a prescription for the hot lava cream. But if that doesn’t work.......
