ATiK 314L camera failed....

My trusty ATiK 314L appears to have given up the ghost....
No response to light and varying exposures - constant 300 ADU screen....

Do you think this camera is worth repairing?

Have you contacted Atik direct? Steve Chambers seems like a reasonable chap.

I did make contact with Steve at ATIK...
He thinks it could be a PCB failure and an estimated cost 200 Euro.
That would be around $400 with postage etc.

Hi M,

In that case, you may consider asking a local electronics tech to look at the PCB / camera as a whole for any sign of failure, typically poor/cracked solder joints, loose connector or dead/dying/leaking capacitors. This can sometimes be diagnosed by inspection, lightly tapping the PCB, application of heat/cold or an ESR meter for some capacitors. A competent electronics tech even without a circuit diagram or direct product experience, should be able to detect and repair certain such faults.

Best
JA

Ken does the fan run? is there any sign of power...aka obviously it connected by USB it appears to thus have pwr?

Is it just not cooling? Or does the frame readout appear defunct, aka a frame but no data on the frame?

Bredan,
The camera seems to power up OK.
The fan is running and AstroArt connects to it OK.
The temperature shows "-60 deg"
It will take an image at any exposure, but the result is always the same - an image which looks like a dark, with an average ADU around 300 ADU.
Exposing to bright sunlight gives the same outcome.

Ok -60C is impossible or is it? (in the voice of Homer)...re: polar vortex! Hahaha Sorry had to throw that it.....

This doesn't sound just a bad voltage, sound like an IC fail: SRAM; Signal processor; AD converter; even a bad sensor; or such like.

What I'm saying is yes I could look at it but I suspect its more than a basic issue. I'd probably have to spend quite a bit of time deciphering, reverse engineering, before I could identify the possible culprit. If its an IC with firmware then back to square 1.

The only thing I,m thinking is the sensor, Signal processor is bad or power to either .....but why the -60C? Which takes us back to the controller MCU with firmware. So in other-words I could look at it but I suspect it'll still needed to be forwarded to the OEM.
