Ultimate lens!!!

This one is doing the rounds at the moment but if you haven't seen it, check out Zeiss's 1700mm f4 telephoto!

http://tinyurl.com/qn5b6

Apparently its a one-of-kind built for a wildlife photographer

Oh and just in case you think you can sling one over your shoulder check out the weight....1/4 ton!

SO is there an actual pic of the lens besides a compute generated mock up of it?

Would make a nice telescope.

Now that's just silly.. You may as well get a refractor and do some prime focus work of the wildlife.

maybe the lens offers the properties of being able to keep objects focused like a tv camera

Is that for real, or is it a typo? “This 256 kg behemoth…..”

25.6kgs yes, but surely not 256kgs?

Cheers

Yep for wildlife you need fast focus. It is overkill though. I am sure it would be cheaper and more useful to design a coupled auto focus for a 10 or 12 inch SN.
It would have to be vastly in excess of $100k just going on Canons biggest super telephotos.
Has it been built or is it a 'concept'?
