Sbig stf

Seems there is an updated version of the ST-8300 soon to be released. Whilst it still uses the KAF-8300 sensor the STF has improved electronics to give faster download times and greatly reduced noise for cleaner images. There is also the inclusion of an OAG capability which is backwards compatible with the first generation ST-8300.

Peter are you getting any this month ?

I have an order on hold for a QSI 6 series but may cancel it and get one of these depending on availabilityof this system with OAG.

Can you email or PM me pricing and availibility.

Thanks
Chris

...Need to be careful not to make this sound like an advert...but in general terms ....Local pricing on the Pro-package will be nearly AUD $1000 less expensive than similarly equipped QSI6 direct from the USA

A stock order has been placed...but when we get a "care package" is another matter I'd expect deliveries before Christmas.

By the way....Un-attenuated NB guiding and 1 second full-frame downloads and compact size I personally found very seductive...hence I even ordered one !

That sounds more like the goods. How much are they? The 8300 chip must be the most
popular astro chip of all time.

Ah... would rather keep my astrophotographer/ISS hat on and say: there are well-known web sites where you can find out prices etc.

Noice!

An integrated OAG is what made QSI so popular. Its a great idea.

It's a pleasure Peter, but let's not make Mike Salways letter box the usual, the skim off the top is getting "intrusive"

Looks like a few manufacturers are heading down this path - I Atik have released an OAG & filter wheel for their CCDs. Is the offering from Starlight Express new as well?

My question is, what is the final mounting to sensor distance of the STF? This is important for focal reducers/flatteners? The review of the Atik one gave a sensor to final mounting distance of 67mm. (The review gave an example of 56mm being an optimal distance for some flatteners - which is the distance between the focal plane of a DSLR & the front of a standard T-adaptor). I couldn't see a backfocus distance for the filter wheel on the page mentioned above.

The back focus of the QSIwsg package is 50-53mm depending on faceplate - yes, I'll admit I'm biased!

At least they're guiding from in front of the filters!

With OAG and filter wheel 54.5mm (The optical back focus is actually 54.6mm) . Without OAG a mere 37.5mm.

Colour chipped versions with the OAG sit at 34.5mm

Excellent new Peter! Glad they've got that "right".

This STF version, is this the beginning of a series of upgraded electronics on the other models (STX I assume already has all this)?.

Does the full frame buffer imply that the driver to run the camera is now onboard and not downloaded from the computer at powerup?

Greg.

Now the long wait. This camera will be a fine match with my FSQ (or should I say your old one Greg)

The small pixels will be an excellent match. The 8300 chip is reasonably high QE as well plus it seems to be a cleaner sort of chip all round.

Greg.
