Stacking HA using a OSC camera

Does anyone have a procedure for creating Ha images taken with a OSC camera using either Maxim, DSS or PS

Talk to Marc Aragnou (Multiweb), he is taking HA with a QHY8 OSC. I think though he is using Nebulosity and CCDStack for capture and processing.

Hi Trevor, It's all pretty simple really. Just process as normal including the debayer. No need to split the channels as the only light captured is that which made it';s way through the filter anyhow.
Using photoshop, select image, mode and select mono/black and white..The other alternative is to just desaturate the image back to grey scale.
The QHY8 works very well for Ha capture.

Hope this helps.

Hi Trev I just debayer to red and do the data rejection one channel only. There's a lot of noise that builds up in the green and blue and very little signal so by discarding the green and blue you have less noise to deal with than doing a data rejection on the red only.

In the past I did both methods of binning 2x2 and debayer to color directly. Didn't work as well for me.

Well took some lights last night ten minute subs of what I thought was NGC3584 hard to tell in Ha but the lights won't stack in DSS not enough stars and very little to see on the lights even after stretching

Help please

Gidday Trevor

Is it possible that 10 minute exposures are just not long enough at the F8??? of your RC? This is a mag 12.5 nebula after all.

The reason I ask this is that I have been imaging that area at 20 minute subs in Ha with a OSC Orion camera at F5 and apart from two bright stars, mag 5.1 and 6.7, there are no other brightish ones in my fov of 2x1.5 degrees.

Might be worth upping the ante to 20 or even 30 minute subs as a test.

Hope that helps.

Regards
Wayne

You'll have to go longer with more subs to get any signal. Ha is a very dense filter. Were you focused ok?
