New IIS Membership Increasing

I’ve noticed the rapid increase in IIS membership over the past 3 or 4 months which is fantastic
Maybe something to do with this horrible pandemic
Astronomy opens so many doors for people young and old by providing an interesting and wonderful experience which for some folk has lasted for a lifetime
Definitely an exciting, challenging and rewarding hobby
For some it becomes the focal point of their life

Enjoy all fields of Astronomy and what is has to offer you won’t be disappointed, it will take you to places you can’t even imagine

Clear Skies !!

Yep, I'll admit it - I haven't been here long at all.

The pandemic didn't bring me here, but it's provided me with the opportunity to be a (small) part of a community with interests similar to my own. While my primary focus (no pun intended... ) is on the moon and the nearer planets when it comes to imaging, it's been great to read the accumulated wisdom of the folks here. It's helped a lot.

100% because of the pandemic. A few weeks ago when I picked up my new SkyWatcher mount from Optics Central in Melbourne, it was both surprising and great to see several customers who were newbies looking at beginner telescopes. The staff informed me that telescope orders had definitely increased during the lockdowns. And now with the Moon, Jupiter and Saturn conjunction, I ponder the amazement they hopefully experience with first viewing

I bought a telescope (my first) and joined because of the pandemic, and especially the Melbourne lockdown. Fantastic distraction.
