Global Shipping Program A+

A rave rather than a rant for a change .......

I bought a Telescope case on Monday @ 9.17am from Norman Camera in the USA.

It was going to be shipped via the 'Global Shipping Program' .....

It has just been delivered to me in Canberra

4 days from USA to Canberra via Memphis, Honolulu, Aust Customs .......
beat that Australia Post !!!!

I have heard first hand that the Australia Post US shipping program thing is VERY slow, with some shipments taking 6 weeks to actually even be processed to leave the USA. I guess they fill all the allocated freight space on Rubber Dog Turd Freighters (Hong Kong, LTD.) before sending.

The eBay shipping out of the US is ludicrously slow too - 4 weeks on average, and goes Fed Ex el-cheapo filling the pilot nav bags.....

I personally have ANYTHING US bought shipped to a mate in Ohio, who then sends to me. Average turn around is 7 days

The case cost $442 + $91 for Shipping/Customs ..... so $533 to my door,
Australian dealers wanted a minimum of $746+ freight.

its the "customs" bit that bugs me, there is no requirement for any payment to "customs" , unless you have to pay duty , which they don't pay, good deal though

I've actually got similar / slightly larger cases for sale here in Oz for under $300. With pull-out handle & wheels.

Supercheap Auto has the LARGE "Pelican" generic Chinese clone for around $400 at the moment - I almost bought one for the FC-100 and gear the other day (but just ended up with one of the smaller ones for the hand controllers etc for $24). And no, they don't reek of chemical smell

Unless he has bigger, there is NO WAY a TOA130 refractor will fit the largest offered in the ad. I don't think even my old FC-100 will fit.

The global shipping program is alright and can be speedy. I have had items from the U.S. in a week or less and yes better than australia post. I find even with the global shipping australian customs can slow down the process along with the australian portion of the postal system. Can be pricey too for gasp and the other drawback is they will not post to PO Boxes and then the biggest annoyance for someone that is work during the day ... FedEx or other carriers just do the supposed safe drop after you pay so much for shipping!

Aust post losing money? It seems hard to believe considering they have so much business through ebay, but then they have Aust post shops with merchandise that just sits there and then they lose money trying to discount to oblivion to get rid of it.

The global shipping program actually pays for all the fees, even when items go over $1000aud the import charges are factored in and usually shown. Mind you best to keep things under $1000 where you can because of the duty fees and government charges not to mention customs sometimes holing up your purchase and asking stupid questions about information only the seller has ... From previous experience!

Overall I think the gsp program allows more items to be available to us in oz however the postage price has gone up considerably since for those that use it.
