where can you buy a nice case for a small APO?

I have a nice CFF 105 APO and would like to get a case for it. It came with a soft case but its really not adequate for an expensive instrument.

Any suggestions?

Greg.

Hi Greg,

I used a large Trojan plastic-type toolbox and packed it with sound foam.
Box cutter to cut the foam to size.

The box has a removable tray, which can keep other odds and ends.

Regards, Rob

I’d line the soft case with EVA foam... some spray adhesive to fix it in place.

I made a timber case for my TS115, which Alex now owns. I suggest you make a timber case, it's not that hard and you will have something unique.
Most scopes come packed in foam supports when shipped, just transfer those over to your timber case.

If using foam I would use epp foam as this is extremely strong . Used for wings and fuses in radio control planes. Very tough stuff. Cheers Richard.

If you are serious about a quality case contact Image Alloy cases in WA and they will custom cut the case and the foam to your OTA

+1 : I have one that is custom fit for my FSQ-106 and it is absolutely superb! Incredible quality. You could drive over it and it'd survive.

Thanks. I sent Image Alloys a quote request and also an inquiry to Bintel as the Skywatcher ED100 case looks like a good fit.

I use a couple of these cases from Supercheap, they are nice and strong and not very expensive. They have an internal length of 540mm so should fit the scope at its most compact.

How about a Geoptik padded bag for small refractors or a Geoptik hermetic case?

Hi Greg,

On ebay try searching for roadcase or flightcase, or wooden tool/box for something like this (although 2x too big)....

Best

Sorry for the slow response.
Do have a link or photo of the case?
Bunnings seemed to have cases that were too big or too small for a 700mm long refractor.

Stellarvue’s soft cases are nice and sturdy , but I don’t think you can go past a pelican type case. I have one that came with my Pm-1 mount, tough as nails. Not sure whether it’s an original though, no labels.
Have bought through cases.com.au before, they have clearance cases from time to time
