nice shot, the lmc seems nicely separated to me from the stars, as it should be, really a good "hanging in space" feel.

odd you seem to have a fair bit of distortion in the bottom left corner, maybe from cropping down from wider field? was just bugging at me looking at this shot.

Great image ,nice colour and plenty of detail
Definitely no yawning matter

I’d go anything to get a good clear night , the mid to south east coast of NSW has been plagued with low pressure fronts one behind the other with plenty of cloud since mid December with only a few clear nights of ordinary seeing , that’s summer on the coastal strip I suppose
Thinking of those poor folk in northern QLD getting an absolute drenching

Keep those images coming as you must have some good clear skies lately

Cheers

Thanks Sil, Yes cropped , but only a little to get rid of the stacking artifacts
at the edges. It is an el cheapo lens [about $70 new inc postage] so
aberrations don't surprise me.

Thanks Martin, I get about 35-45 usable nights per year, and they mostly
come in an almost continuous block in Summer.

Hi Raymo, I’m new to astronomy and would love to get into astrophotography. I have just purchased a Celestron NexStar Evolution 6” SCT which sits on a heavy duty Alt-Azimuth. From reading various web articles I’m pretty sure I need to change over to an equatorial mount (EQ5?) but I’m also keen to mount my camera (thinking about upgrading to a Sony A6300 or Nikon D5600) on something similar to what you have and taking pics of deep space objects. Any tips for a beginner?

Thanks Ryan, quite the opposite to my 100mm version of LMC which had a sort of dreamlike effect due to a little condensation on the lens optics.

Chris, Sorry I missed your post which came up almost immediately I finished my last reply. Thanks for the compliment. I stick with simple, that way I don't
get superb results, but I get decent results with less to go wrong.

Looks great Ray. I’m the same as Martin, we finally had our first apparent clear night in ages on sunday night, but it was a trap, the radar showed two massive thunderstorms inbound... Again.
