Close Encounter

While photographing a wobbly Mars the other night, I gave up and swung the scope towards the moon before packing it away. Not the best seeing but it was fun looking at these craters up close. Correct me if I'm wrong, Copernicus and Eratosthenes, I think. 8 inch Newt, Canon 550d with 2.5X Powermate and 9mm eyepiece, 1600 iso.

Come on Michael you have just croped a Hubble image surely☺
That is a fantastic image.
I showed my Dad and he could not believe the detail.
Make sure you print it out and frame it.
I say that because all my early work was lost when the next door cat came in, the only time ever, I did not realise it was even in the house, but during the night it threw up on my lap top...the only time I did not close it up...but a few hard copies of great captures such as your should be hung and admired.

Thanks Kevin, I don't normally shoot the moon at this image scale but because I was all set up for Mars, it just shows what magnification you need for the planets.

Thanks Alex, bad luck about the next door cat, who would of thought that could ever happen. I didn't crop these shots, they're pretty much how they framed in the camera. I find close up surface details of the moon difficult to process. They always come out with some strange artifacts that I end up having to remove. The seeing wasn't good, so I was surprised I got this much detail as at this magnification, the moon looks like it's been submerged in water. There was just fleeting moments of reasonable clarity which was obviously enough for Pipp to sort through. I got about 700 frames out of a 3000 frame video grab. Amazing program.
