What do you get when you merge a Hotech SCT camera adapter and a coma Corrector

Guys and girls - I have done it - found nirvana!!!! I have merged a Baader Coma Corrector and a Hotech SCT camera adapter. that means now you can get a perfectly centralised camera in the focuser on any Newtonian.

Yet to see how this works in practical terms with the scope but it is promising

You just have too many toys, too much time and too much imagination.
That said, I'd be interested to see how it works out.

LOL i think Marcus has it in his signature - He with the most toys wins...... LOL

I really hope this works for Me and Alan Meehan who really spurred me onto doing this. LOL it helps to have two of everything - well sort of if it does work it will be an awesome combination. The success i got just with the Hotech Field Flatener made me think this should be possible, i was just lucky that the threads worked out to be the same

Well i have recieved my hotech SCT camera adapter from my Astro shop and taken the front screw in t adapter off the front ,this was not a easy task as it is lock tight on and took some real grunt to get off,but with some help from Dave i got it removed, the coma corrector was then screwed to the font of the adapter and the normal camera t adapter to it. this was then placed in the focus tube of the newtonion to see if we could get focus ,the coma corrector is still 55 from the plain of the camera. The following shot has achieved the focus i was after.please excuse star drift as its been raining for weeks and my pier moves with to much water.

Cmon guys the proof of the pudding is in the eating! Shots! Shots! Shots!

Way to go h0ughy. You have given me an idea now to see if the WO Flat II and III can be done the same way. Brilliant

That's not good news about the pier Al. Can run a drainage line around the Observ. and run the water away? You don't want your footing sagging and slumping and settling out of plumb.

I'm a bit thick David - what does the FF add to the setup? Better optical field (flatter?) or helps with physical centring/attachment of camera?

Well if you have a newt then you need a coma corrector, and generally if you have a refractor you need a field flattener to get stars sharp to the edge (for those like me that have cheap refractors). The hotech SCT camera adapter allows the camera to be centrally and securely aligned to the optical plane of the scope, not pushed to one side or the other. So by attaching that to a coma corrector like the baader one you get the perfect adapter for the camera - hotech have a field flattener for the refractor - I liked it so much I bought a second one for the ED80. So now I have a set - a hotech FF for the ed127 and the ed80, and now a hybrid setup for the R200SS newt I have. Alan has a Meade 10" SN with a JMI motorised focuser but he was getting stars focused on one side and fat bloated ones on the other. This setup will/has fix that problem.

Ok - so a useful setup for refractors and newts alike.
Thanks....
