Orion ED80T CF (carbon fibre, triplet apo)

Just saw this on the Orion website - a new ED80 carbon fibre triplet apo with FPL-53 glass + all the usual bells and whistles for $699US.

http://www.telescope.com/control/pro...oduct_id=09525

Anyone heard anything about these scopes?

Cheers
Doug

Looks alright. If I had the money I'd order one, give it a test run.

Got to wait till 30.6.10 - it's our very own astro version of the iPad!!!!

Stumbled upon this after looking at the TMB 80SS triplet at astronomics.
There's a test on Craig Stark's blog page which shows there's still edge coma with this type of design though, so a flattener is still required!
The PFlat 2 did a great job with the f6.3 TMB scope - might be good for the Orion too?

Who would have thought that CF triplets are now becoming entry level price scopes!!
Fun times eh?
Doug

That scope looks similar to my Stellarvue SV80ED Raptor guidescope...

The Orion weighs in at 6lbs (including diagonal), the SV80 at 4lb (excluding diagonal). It's a similar weight to the non CF tube 80mm doublets, only with triplet optics and a CF tube. Nice

It was $995 at Astronomics on back order.
Looks a very nice 80mm scope.
