Horsehead from Wyaralong

Went out to the dam at wyaralong yesterday and managed to get 10 frames of 300 sec on the horsehead. I could have gotten A LOT more but i had issues with dust on the camera which really demoralised me. Turns out it was easier than I thought to remove using the brush tool on photoshop. Oh well.

As with all horsehead images, alnitak is a bit wonked. I'll need to work on making it better.

Good one Tony.
I tried last night but spent the time sorting out issues for the hour it was in view.

Some nice colour there Tony. I've been doing the same object and chucked the first night as I forgot to focus - extreme stupid factor

I know the feeling Tony. You've been battling dust. I've been battling winds. It's all fun and games I guess. Was the dust heavy and constantly changing position on the scope? If not and it's just tiny little specs that stay in the same spot, you can get rid of them with flats. It's much quicker than having to manually remove them when processing.

I tried flats with the last set but i mustve gotten the exposure settings wrong and they didnt affect the image much (or at all). I dont have the luxury of a Shutter priority and still experimenting with APT flats tool.

I managed a full hour at 800 iso taking 30 second exposures and stacked them in Deep Sky Stacker but poor processing did not see a particularly good final.
Still happy to have a clear sky and to be getting anything at all in the city.

Something that might be worth trying. If you're using an OSC you can look at the histogram and check to see if all of the channels are sitting in the middle. If they aren't, you can sometimes get away by cheating with a post balance. However all of the flats need to have the exact same focus as the lights otherwise it won't work.
