Recommended binoviewers with Solar Scope

Hi Everyone,

Would like to ask everyone's collective experience in regards what is good binoviewer that is compatible with a Lunt 60mm and Lunt 100mm?

Is it easy to achieve focus?
How different was the view?
What is best bang for buck?
Recommended eyepieces?

Thanks everyone

M11

Hi Mel, I use a William optics binoviewer with my LS60 and LS100 scopes. They come to focus with the 1.6x GPC(glass path corrector) supplied with the BV, but the focuser is almost racked in all the way, with about 5mm to spare. I also use a Coronado blocking filter and the 1.6x GPC is screwed to the nosepiece facing the objective, this way I have plenty of focus range for all my eyepieces. I prefer plossls, the TV 32,20,15mm and 11mm pairs work great, as do the 24mm Pans. Binoviewing, especially with a doublestacked LS100 can produce some fantastic views, I like the 3D effect you get with a full disk, and using higher magnification really makes the detail on the disk stand out, especially in the wings of Ha. I've tried zoom EP's with the BV but didn't find them comfortable in use.
Ivan.

Hi Ivan,

Thanks for thr information and sharing.

Is this the William Optics binoviewer you have?

https://optcorp.com/products/william...with-eyepieces

Hmm i need to try plossls as I have only used zoom eyepieces so far.

Thanks,

Hi Mel, yes that's the WO binoviewer. They sell the BV as a unit only and also as a set with eyepieces and the 1.6x GPC. Most eyepieces will work okay, the supplied 20mm WO EP's are fine, I just prefer the plossls. I only use my zoom EP's for mono viewing. There are better binoviewers out there, but for the price, the WO's are a good buy.

Hi Ivan,

Thanks for confirming.

Quite a few choices with the Baader and Denk ones.
Thank you for the info on the William Optics Bino. I will plan on getting them for my 60mm for now. My 100mm lunt is still on order but I might grab another one for them.

One question I have, you mention you didnt like the view with the zoom eyepieces with bino. Was the view degraded or not as sharp?

Thanks,

m11

I just didn't like the ergonomics of using the zooms with the BV's. I tried Baader, Orion, and Lunt solar Zooms, but prefered smaller profile EP's. I know of others that binoview with zooms, and are happy with them.

Mel you could also email Wolfi at http://www.teleskop-express.de/shop/...-Ansaetze.html.
They give advice ..tell them your rig and they will cater for you. Just look at the BVs and GPC mags.
PS: click on the english flag top right of his page to translate.
Merry Xmas.

Re BVs.

Dave Rosser did a good review of the Baaders here
www.iceinspace.com.au/42-717-0-0-1-0.html
as sold be Telescop Express and elsewhere.
PS:I have a pair and enjoy them with 19mm TV Panoptics and Delites and Dual EDS from TS in Germany for Planets.
