The Cone Nebula and Fox Fur Nebula

I haven't posted an image for a while but I do have quite a bit of acquired data, several images at least.

This was last night after tweaking my mount's polar alignment (despite being permanently mounted I find I need to tweak Polar Alignment every now and then or if I change cameras).

This is using the FLI Microline 16 (KAF16200 CCD). This sensor has a certain liveliness to it. Its a good match for the Honders Astrograph at 1.11 arc seconds per pixel which is a good sampling rate for common seeing of around 3 arc seconds.

Not much exposure time here so another tick for the Honders getting a lot of light fast.

I wasn't even aware this was visible to us southerners, pops up in the northern hemisphere a bit but I don't think I've seen an Aussie photograph it before.

It's a nice shot. Looks like your bottom left corner is out of focus but it's quite minor, just needs some shimming

Thanks Colin. I have been adjusting for tilt and I noticed that as well. More work needed on getting the tilt 100% sorted but as you say its quite minor at the moment but not 100% there and I was happy with the image considering I was still midway fixing the tilt.

Regardless of any corner issues which I agree are minor it's an impressive shot. Nice and contrasty with lovely rich colours.

I tried imaging this target several years ago and gave up after only getting 40 minutes each side of the meridian. At 35.5S this is a difficult target to acquire, so I completely what you have had to put up with to acquire the data. Nice detail considering the elevation.

Hi Greg, looks great! Maybe a bit black clipped though?

Way much better than the versionI shot 3-4 years ago!
Must add it to list of targets to revisit - it's along list....

Thanks Andy. I just checked the histogram and there is a bit of room to the left so not black clipped. I did keep it a little dark as it has a low exposure time so it may look like that.

Yes it is quite a forceful image but its not really forced to be that way processing wise. Well may be a bit. Its also quite a surprisingly colourful area.

Greg.
